The NET+ cloud services program is one of several ways industry organizations can participate in the Internet2 research and education community. Please reach out to us at netplus@internet2.edu with any questions.

NET+ Cloud Services Program

We detail on our wiki page on when we typically add new NET+ services and requirements for services to join the NET+ portfolio. The NET+ portfolio includes services that can achieve R&E community scale and where there is a deep strategic relationship between the community and industry. Entrance into the NET+ portfolio require a service provider to complete a community-led service evaluation process and negotiation of a custom contract and pricing. The portfolio currently includes 21 of the most utilized cloud services for R&E leveraged by almost 400 different institutions.

Internet2 Cloud Scorecard

With a relatively small NET+ portfolio and a limitless number of cloud services that could benefit the research and education community, Internet2 convened a working group and developed a cloud scorecard questionnaire to leverage the standards that have been utilized in the NET+ program to assess and report on compliance, security and technology of cloud services. We have engaged with a variety of cloud service providers to participate in our pilot program by self-attesting through the questionnaire. We recently hosted a virtual event to introduce the Cloud Scorecard Directory and invite you to check it out and provide feedback.

Internet2 Industry Membership

For-profit organizations that are committed to promoting the development and deployment of advanced research and education network applications and services and other applications and services developed and operated by Internet2, as well as those that utilize the Internet2 Network in the course of conducting research in collaboration with the Internet2 community. Industry membership is required for services in the NET+ portfolio.

InCommon Participation

The InCommon Federation is the world’s largest research and education federation.  It enables federated authentication and authorization (secure, international, multi-institution, single sign-on) access to cloud services, enterprise services, and collaboration tools. In addition to partnership with other international federation operators, InCommon connects more than 10 million users and 760 educational and research institutions and commercial resource providers in the United States alone. Commercial resource providers looking to scale their service in Research and Higher Education are encouraged to consider joining the InCommon Federation.
