About Milestone Releases
The COmanage Project has been undergoing a significant effort to fully update Registry into Version 5.0. In this month’s newsletter, we are dedicating some time to explaining COmanage Registry’s Milestone Release strategy, a process that we are using to track progress toward v5.0, and enable those using the software to contribute feedback and input along the process.
Open Office Hours - April 5
Do you have a question about deploying or configuring Registry or Match? Want to get some input on a solution architecture design? Want to hear how your colleagues in the community are solving problems similar to yours? Each month you can bring your topics for discussion to the call. No need to register or spin up a presentation (but feel free if it suits you!); just show up! A short conversation starter kicks off each session to help get the discussion started.

2024 Topic Aperitif: COmanage Registry 5.0 Update
Much of the COmanage Project development team is focused on development toward the release of COmanage Registry 5.0. We will kick off each of the Office Hours in 2024 with a brief update on the latest developments.
Registry v5 updates
What is Registry v5? Hasn’t this been going on for a while?
The development team has been working with early adopters on Registry v5. This version includes a migration to the latest version of the Cake PHP framework which supports our code structure. Given this significant undertaking, we are using this opportunity to evaluate how Registry use has evolved over the past 14 years and update the code and data structures so that they are more effective and efficient for today’s users. And, with Registry operating better under the hood, we also are improving Registry’s user interface to better support new and occasional users and provide easier-to-use and -understand functionality.
The development process
Updates are being managed as Milestone Releases (MR). We recently tagged MR11 and have already started on MR12. Each Milestone Release includes specific functionality that has been migrated to the new framework. We will continue with the Milestone Release model until the first deployer is ready to go to production, at which point we will release v5.0.0 final.
The Milestone Releases that have been completed or are in progress:
- MR1 - Core Person Models
- MR2 - Person Roles
- MR3 - External Identities
- MR4 - Groups and COUs
- MR5 - Authorization
- MR6 - Global Search
- MR7 - Plugin Infrastructure
- MR8 - Jobs
- MR9 - Provisioning
- MR10 - Identifier Assignment
- MR11 - External Identity Sources
- MR12 - Message Templates and Notification
Enrollment Flow development has begun on a separate branch, and will fold into the Milestone Release process when it has reached a point suitable for public testing.
Getting involved
Are you a current Registry user? We seek your input on Milestone Releases to ensure that the updates made are consistent with your use cases and data sets, and to receive feedback on updates to user interfaces. This group of Pilot Testers will communicate in two ways:
- SLACK: via the Internet2 Slack channel, #incommon-comanage-registry-pe. Please reach out to Laura or Bill if you would like to gain access to this channel.
- OFFICE HOURS: We will allocate some time during our monthly Open Office Hours meeting to discussions about Milestone Releases.

CONGRATULATIONS to Wake Forest University!
We have heard from Seth Stein of Wake Forest University that they launched their implementation of COmanage Registry and Match on March 11. This launch coincided with a milestone in their Banner-to-Workday student information system (SIS) project. COmanage is part of the workflow for employees, students, and retirees, and is used to assign identifiers and usernames for some populations and propagate this information to downstream systems. Match is already showing its value as it has found some long undetected duplicates.
We will check in with the team in the coming weeks to learn more about the project and the role of the COmanage tools. And for now, please help us congratulate Wake Forest on a successful launch!

About The COmanage Project
COmanage is an Open Source Project that is focused on streamlining digital lifecycle management for your populations. It consists of two tools: Registry and Match.
COmanage Registry is an identity registry with flexible enrollment and lifecycle management capabilities that helps you meet your identity management objectives using standardized tools and approaches. It can be used as a central person registry, a guest management system, or a collaboration hub for scholarly collaborations.
COmanage Match performs identity de-duplication in order to help minimize the creation of duplicate accounts for the same individual. It provides a heuristic-based system for matching identity records across multiple authoritative systems of record. Match can be used with Registry or as a standalone product complementary to your other tools.
