ITANA Minutes May 14, 2009

*Attendees*

Jim Phelps, University of Wisconsin-Madison (chair)
Paul Hill, MIT
Paul Hobson, Cardiff
Steve Olshansky, Internet2
Todd Piket, Minnesota State Colleges and Universities
Dean Woodbeck, Internet2 (scribe)

*MACE-Paccman Glossary*

Paul Hill has been active with the MACE-paccman (Privilege and Access Management) working group and joined the call to talk about ITANA's interest in the glossary of privilege management concepts underdevelopment by MACE-paccman:https://spaces.at.internet2.edu/display/macepaccman/MACE-paccman-glossary

Given the potential for overlap, ITANA will cede the work on enterprise authorization to MACE-paccman, with an eye toward a paccman presentation on a future ITANA call. There may also be an opportunity for interaction with access management efforts in the UK.

*Screen2Screen on Kuali*

The next ITANA Screen2Screen will be Thursday, May 28, 1:30 - 3 p.m. We will again use an audio bridge and Adobe Connect screen-sharing software. Jim has received a few comments on what people would like to see in the presentation. The presentation will provide a brief introduction to Kuali Rice, followed by a discussion of the issues surrounding the use of Rice as an enterprise middleware infrastructure, supporting applications beyond those developed by the Kuali Foundation.

Jim mentioned that, based on his experience at an EDUCUASE enterprise architecture conference recently, there is a growing interest in open-source and community-source products.

Future Screen2Screens will include a presentation on SOA and interoperability by Tom Dopirak (in 4-6 weeks) and an EA tools round-up after that.

*Joint Discussion with JISC*

JISC (in the UK) has formed an enterprise architecture group, after piloting the concept for a year. JISC is starting, in July, a new program called Flexible Service Delivery Program, as well as a strategic technologies group to look at brokering better relationships with higher education vendors. As more institutions move to larger systems, they tend to get locked into those systems and there is, in general, a lack of interoperability. Paul Hobson will put some relevant URLs in the ITANA wiki.

*Next Call, Kuali Screen2Screen, Thursday, May 28, 2009, 1:30 p.m. EDT*
