  2. Pilot target constituents:   23 Public community colleges in the state of Ohio
  3. Pilot Scope:   Initial scope will be 3-5 community colleges and 3 applications.
  4. Initial Pilot Goals:   The Goals of the OARnet pilot are to enhance the classroom and online teaching in Ohio Community Colleges by increasing adoption of federated access to three key services: Library Access, State Board of Regents Student Services, and Roaming Wireless Network Access.
  5. Targeted start and end dates for initial pilot: 7/2013-7/2014
  6. Post-pilot longer term goals:  Community and technical colleges are a bridge between K12 educations and 4-year universities; the long-term goal of the pilot is to extend the benefits of federation down to K12 in order to provide a seamless transition process to higher education.
  7. Federation model selected for project: Hybrid. Some IdP’s will be individually operated in a distributed mesh as part of the federation and will also be members of InCommon; there will also a central “IdP of last resort” for institutions not operating their own or institutions that are not members of InCommon.
  8. InCommon Affiliate assistance/role in pilot+:+    Fischer International Identity will be providing IdP services to constituents who need assistance with IdP setup/operations
  9. Targeted applications or cloud services:
    1. Library Access: Federated web-based access to the OhioLINK library network via SAML
    2. State Board of Regents applications: Federated authentication incorporating the Ohio Statewide Student Identifier (SSID)
    3. Shared roaming wireless: Federated, authenticated access to wireless networks across all participating Ohio institutions using the eduroam model
  10. Q&A:
    1. Break down in working with federated packages, are Net+ services you might be able to add adding incentive
      1. Extending it to new services may be a good idea (perhaps Box is a good idea)
      2. There are several forums that meet and articulate a desire for certain services but when it comes time to sign a contract and sign a check there is silence. It’s sputtering because the deal national is not as good as the deal locally. The pace that Net+ has made things available caused organizations to fracture off and do their own things.
      3. Not all Net+ Services are federated and are slow to shibolize
        1. In New Jersey, They are going after learning management systems like Moodle and Canvas.
        2. In working with SAML and Fischer, there are two production instances running but may adopt working with other cost effective affiliates
    2. NET+ Services Spreadsheet (Mike Zawacki) Mike Zawacki has provided a link for the group to review the Net+ services spreadsheet and provide feedback:
      1. internet2.app.box.com/netplussrv
      2. password is pilotdef (all lowercase)
    3. Q&A:
      1. Does a non-member who is buying Net+ go through OARnet with their physical connection
        1. are encourage to connect through a regional
        2. Internet2 and aggregated commodity / a school is considering dropping SegP services but keep Net+ services. They heard that is wasn’t necessarily.
          1. Mike will check on the requirements
  11. Other Updates
