A member of the public - who may be a 'private scholar' active in an unaffiliated capacity, a retired individual contributing to a folksonomy, etc. - wishes to establish a user identity as a Bamboo Person. Unable to authenticate against infrastructure that is known and trusted by Bamboo, she uses an externally-provisioned account that does not guarantee her assertion of identity (e.g., OpenID). Roles associated with her Bamboo identity/profile may therefore not assert an affiliation for which guarantees are managed (e.g., by a university's IdM infrastructure). This may constrain her activity in the Bamboo ecosystem, as some privileges are reserved for persons affiliated with one or more particular institutions or organizations. Should this person become affiliated with a trusted institution at a later time, her identity will need to acquire a record of that new affiliation; cf. the Account Linking use cases (simple and complex) described on this page.
