*April Face2Face Planning*

With the deadline tomorrow (March 20), there are 12 or 13 registered for the ITANA Face2Face, with two other possibilities. That would make about 15, or about half the number necessary to hold the meeting. It appears unlikely that there will be a Face2Face.

*Alternatives to Face2Face*

There was discussion about alternatives to Face2Face meetings, including:

Local/Regional Meet-ups: Attendees would travel shorter distances and, in many cases, not have the expense of an overnight. Universities would serve as hosts and the locations could be linked together via video conferencing or Adobe Connect combined with a phone bridge. Participants would benefit from face-to-face networking opportunities while participating in a nationwide event.

Online: The main topics from the Face2Face agenda could be worked into online presentations, to be done live via Adobe Connect (or similar technology) and a phone bridge. Adobe Connect allows for presentations, screen sharing, whiteboards, chats and breakout sessions. The Adobe Connect session can be archived, as well.

Regional Meetings: Independent local/regional meetings with specific agendas. These would would be independent of one-another; that is, there would be no video link or Adobe Connect technology. Regular ITANA calls would be used to report back on these meetings and capture items of interest for the working group.

Meeting Synergy: Take advantage of existing meetings to have formal or informal ITANA discussions (such as at Internet2 Member Meetings or EDUCAUSE meetings).

Wiki Use: ITANA could also encourage the use of the wiki for session reports, posting of presentations, and posting of background information (papers and links). This could enhance sessions if the information was there ahead of the presentations..

The consensus was:

  • Explore sponsoring a series of two-hour sessions, using Adobe Connect or similar technology, with topics based on the F2F agenda.
  • Brendan Bellina will send a note proposing an informal gathering during the Internet2 Spring Member Meeting.
  • Jim Phelps and Marina Arseniev will explore interest in regional meetings hosted at UC-Irvine and UW-Madison.

*enterprise-architecture.org*

Jim reported that he has been exploring enterprise-architecture.org, a tool for creating documentation for your architecture. As he continues, if this looks like an interesting topic for ITANA, he will report to the group.
