After a brief look at the Agenda the meeting started with Cas reporting the outcome of the election. The next Vice Chair of the NTAC will be Matt Davy.

Updates followed:

IPv6: Michael pointed out that we need to restart the wg calls. They were temporarily put on hold over the last part of the summer. Dale mentioned that there was interest from the CTO in following the progress of getting v6 on the new link to China.

Peering and Routing: They continue to have calls. At this point they are mostly about updates on the consolidation of TR and CPS. Seems to be going well.

ION: Cas discussed that this wg perhaps warrants some re-discussion and re-focus for the group. Maybe it needs to look at how ION relates to OS3E.

Performance: They are holding a wg meeting during the FMM. See that for the topics to be discussed.

Transport: No update.

Internet2 Update: I2 has been focused on some traffic engineering to make more efficient use of the parallel circuits on several paths.  The new Network build is close to having a working circuit in place to the west coast. (in fact on Wed it was announced that there was a working 100G link to Sunnyvale).  Akbar asked if there were any design changes in the new network brought about by added experience. The answer was not really at this point.

AOAC Update:

The AOAC held a call on September 14, 2011.  Internet2 staff provided an update on the network build indicating that optical equipment for phase 2 of the build is being received and will soon be staged.  The network group is also working on lighting and testing of the Salt Lake City to Seattle segment by November in preparation for SC11.   Internet2 staff provided an update on discussions with cloud service providers and led a discussion about future work with them.  Discussion of the agendas for the AOAC open and closed meetings at the upcoming Fall Member Meeting in Raleigh began.  The AOAC invites FMM attendees to attend the AOAC open meeting on Tuesday, October 4, 4:30-6:00 in Room 306C.

ARIN Update: Elections are coming up. These will occur over the next several weeks. There are several candidates with ties to R&E. There are inter-regional transfer policies under consideration. Graceful runout policies seem to be helping, there is evidence that demand has slowed some.
