Internet2 Cloud Services
Randy talked about the cloud computing document that he provided prior to the call. Both regionals and commercial players are doing a good job of providing cloud environments. Universities indicate that commercial offerings don't fit their needs and they are put in a position of individual negotiations with each commercial vendor. More information regarding the trial is included in the document.
BTOP design
John has been in discussions with Internet2 staff on what they need with respect to the BTOP award. Some locations on new footprint have been chosen and Chris Robb has provided a map (sent to the NTAC) and would like to have comments regarding the map. John mentioned that he will send a note with the diagram and ask the NTAC to review locations and contact Chris with concerns. Details on regen sites are being worked out with our fiber partner and Chris asked the NTAC to specify any recommendations for those, too. Steve Wallace mentioned that Internet2 staff think it would be valuable for both RONs and U.S. UCAN to create a short doc that describes the attributes of R&E networks that are needed for CAI (schools, libraries, health-related entities). Then, the document could be endorsed by Internet2. It would be helpful for the RONs to use when describing how the RON differs from commercial vendors. Having a description of service requirements for vendors to meet when the RON is not able to provide service to a particular sector (headroom, multicast, IPv6, transparency of operations)would also be valuable to Internet2. In terms of transparency of operations, Bill Owens mentioned that, for example, the RONs in this community will share router configurations, etc. John will follow up with a note to the community. The timeline for this is not firm but Internet2 staff would like to have this by the end of September.
Information services
A meeting of the group was held at Joint Techs. The group is working on a project related to GENI and Martin Swany will provide more information on the next NTAC call.
ION
Linda Winkler was unable to attend. Dale mentioned that there hasn't been a recent call and there will be an update at the next NTAC call.
IPv6
Michael indicated that he will be reporting on the IPv6 challenge changes that were discussed at the Columbus JT.
Multicast
Richard Machida indicated that there are no updates.
Peering/Routing
Jeff mentioned that the last call included an update from Internet2. There was congestion related to the World Cup. Internet2 working on ensuring that TR-CPS network ready for fall. Plans are progressing on placing a router in NYC. Eight to ten people will soon be looking at proposed topology for the BTOP US UCAN project that includes 100G backbone as well as 10G aggregation layer

Internet2 update
A number of connector upgrades are in progress. Eric mentioned that, last summer, Internet2 was approached to submit an NSF MRI-R2 proposal and the award was made on August 1, 2010. There have been many changes to the network in the past year and the NSF also requested some changes to the original proposal. There is a website for the project at:

Two community calls will be held on August 5 and 17. Eric will be describing what has changed and what the process is for moving forward. This is an exciting opportunity to build a distribued virtual instrument across the community that will allow circuits to be built. It is Eric's expectation that we will need to talk to every campus and every regional 1-1 before applications to DYNES are submitted. Eric would be pleased to take questions. Eric thanked all for the community effort that made this possible. Eric went on to indicate that an IRNC proposal has been funded---packaging and operation support for international circuits that support dynamic circuits.
AOAC
The AOAC has asked a subcommittee chaired by Paul Schopis to conduct a review of TR-CPS consolidation. The AOAC heard an update on BTOP (similar to the one provided on this call). Eric Boyd provided updates on MRI-R2 award and the IRNC awards. There was continued discussion regarding 2011 staff priorities with Ben Fineman describing collaboration tools and telepresence in terms of how they fit into the overall strategy for the Internet2 future.
ARIN
There was discussion regarding how V4 allocations can trigger reviews of addresses already allocated. It was noted that v6 reviews will happen and resources could be pulled if not used.
