Status Updates - Q&A

  • T&I and Ops Updates
    • InCommon is currently (concurrent with this meeting) migrating 300 eduroam registrations into the new eduroam infrastructure.
    • April has been hired to handle Communications for T&I, partially replacing Dean Woodbeck.
  • International Update, SeamlessAccess, and Browser Changes Updates
    • REFEDS has approved the personalized identity category
    • Recruiting for participants in REFEDS's schema working group is ongoing.
  • Working and liaison group updates - including 2022 plan items
    • CTAB and the Federation 2.0 working group are continuing with the work described for InCommon TAC Meeting 2021-11-04.
    • The REFEDS MFA group starting up again, looking for suggestions for updates to the current MFA profile. One goal is to make the specification less vague.
    • Janemarie has passed the baton for federation test working group to Judith
      • Judith is concerned about how many people have joined the group's mailing list to work, as opposed to watch.
  • HECVAT and TAC Update
    • TAC has been asked to sign a MOU, saying that it’ll continue to engage in this work. Kevin is working with them to figure out how to handle this. (How can TAC sign? Who owns HECVAT?)
    • More discussion to come...

Time to revisit the Discovery Service conversation

  • How do we describe what SeamlessAccess means for InCommon? What are the boundaries of the service?
  • What recommendations/requirements would InCommon give to service providers regarding the service?
  • Proposal to indicate an IdP's federations in the discovery UI as an indicator of trustworthiness
    • It complicates the interface.
    • May not add value, as people may not know their federation.
    • This is part of a larger issue of getting information about the selected IdP. It's analogous to consent interfaces for SPs. (Who’s certified the IdP for, e.g., R&S or SIRTFI?)
  • To what degree do we need to ensure availability/robustness? Should there be redundancy on US soil? Does InCommon contribute money or operate part of global infrastructure?
  • The backgrounding paper will be expanded to cover these issues.

TAC nominations

  • Everyone please vote for three candidates by midnight, 11/23/2021.
    • TAC needs to select at least 2 and can select as many as 5.
    • Albert will send the ballot after this meeting.
  • Officers will be elected in the meeting following the new members’ first meeting.

IdP Migration Best Practices / SP Use of IdP Entity ID

  • (Ran out of time.)
