Agenda Bash:
John asked if we could add any updates related to BTOP or the CEO announcements to the Internet2 update.
Chris agreed to do so.
Working Groups:
Information Services:
Jason reported that there were not recent calls or updates. However, earlier work that developed the EUNICE schema
is being used more extensively.
ION:
Dale reported the the Ciena ION service was turned off as of 2:00 PM on tuesday the 6th. This was done by shutting down
the Ciena IDC. The new service has been tested very extensively but to date there has been very little actual use of ION.
Bill reported that he was waiting for the other participant to enable their connects before he started using it extensively. Dale also indicated that he would have a revised service description out fairly soon.
IPV6:
Michael reported that there would be a working group meeting at the Joint Techs in Columbus next week. The main topic
of the meeting will be the how the future instances of the IPv6 challenge should be structured. The WG has determined
that the current challenge is essentially done.
Multicast:
No update.
Peering and Routing:
The WG has been asked to review the US UCAN routing structure. I2 is working on setting up a meeting to get more
information out to the group to allow them to understand and comment on the proposal. Jeff reported that they have put out
a couple calls for help in working on this project, but the response has so far been light. So far he has asked within the WG, he will also extend an invitation out to the NTAC mailing list.
Chris suggested that the session at JT's devoted to discussion of the ARRA update would be repurposed as a BTOP
technical discussion. Jeff and Chris will connect on this and get it set up.
Bill O. asked if the BTOP proposal is public at this point. Rob said we would share the I2 information but that all should be
aware that there is not that much detail in the proposal.
On the TR-CPS activity progress continues. The main focus has been integrating the GNOC into their new role. Kenny asked about the availability of multiple peerings, similar to what was available in TR. Jeff said the the TR-CPS plan is going
to allow for multiple peerings in different cities. Chris pointed out as well that connectors are able to get multiple connections
now and have distinct peerings on these.
Performance:
It was reported there is a face to face meeting scheduled for next week at Joint Techs. Carla is at the perfSONAR workshop
this week.
Transport:
No update.
Internet2 Update:
Chris stated that he will issue the usual traffic report next week at JT's. One feature of this will be a focus on the traffic we have seen related to LHC. He also indicated that any regional or connector could share any data they have to be
included in the report. John indicated that this was a fine suggestion. Chris was asked if he would circulate any of this
information prior to the meetings. He indicated he would do so.
There will be a session devoted to discussing BTOP next week at JT's. This will be fairly high level. There will be more
information coming about what is planned. Overall we are looking for suggestions.
There have been a lot of connector upgrades:
Oregon            2nd 5G to Seattle
MAGPI            2nd 5G. Contracts are done there are a few details to get done.
Cenic                2nd 10G in Kansas City.
FLR/SOX            2nd 10G in Atlanta. Locations might be reviewed later.
UEN                10G is almost done.
Memphis            They are moving from an OC-48 to a 10G physical interface.
MCNC            2nd 10G scheduled for mid July.
Also there is a new backbone link between Chicago and New York. This brings the entire backbone up to 20G. There was
also an upgrade on the LA-Houston-KC-Chi link specifically for ION.
I2 needs to collect more information about ION usage on the new infrastructure to drive the understanding of how much
bandwidth needs to be reserved for that purpose.
There was some discussion of the possible cut in USLHC funding and the effect that might have on transatlantic traffic. Dale and Jason indicated that this would mostly be tier2 to tier1 traffic in CMS, as their data model permits that traffic, Atlas does not have that as an option.
Michael indicated the the 3ROX maintenance is close to being completed. Michael and Chris will find a time at JT's to further
discuss the 3ROX changes.
AOAC:
John reported that there was discussion about the I2 Cloud Computing initiative. The main message is that I2 would act more like a convener then as a provider, the aim being to assist the membership in finding ways to utilize cloud
environments.
There is a proposal for an update to the Strategic plan by the Internet2 Council Officers group (ICO). This is in process. The document will be presented to the new CEO by the ICO.
John talked about the available wave program. This makes available unused and uncommitted waves on some routes. There is a granting process for using these waves. The AOAC supported the UEN request for a wave from SLC to Boise.
There was discussion of TR-CPS. They will undertake a 6 month review of the program.
There was discussion of the up-coming priorities. Internet2 staff presented some of these. There will be continued discussion at future meetings.
