Measurment WG. Ken reported that the paper about settings for locations with Firewalls to deal with is largely ready to go.

  • The NTAC has responded
  • He will work on getting it out to the public very soon
  • He is looking at a number of places to post it
  • Announce it at the member meeting
-Talk to ESnet about putting it on the faster data site.

SDN: Still having calls. Using Etherpad to take notes. They find it works very well. Bill Snow and others from the ONlab have joined the calls. Working on:

  • How to get started with Open Flow Cookbook written by a smaller group and directed at the campuses.
  • Discussion about the management plane
  • GEC 16
  • Face to Face meeting at the member meeting.

Chris then reported on the AL2s installs. Jacksonville, Raleigh and Seattle are done. Ashburn, Minneapolis, Albany, Phoenix and Boston are on the list next. Ordering and timing largely depends on getting the Colo in place. These are Juniper installs, they should all happen fairly soon.

100G interface issues: Internet2 has noticed an issue

  • Short microbursts of outages.
  • Esnet has seen the same behavior
  • This is being worked on, not sure if its a Ciena, Brocade or LR-10 issue. Seems to be LR-10.
  • There is a patch but it is not a persistent fix. On track for a permanent fix.
  • The NOC will roll out the patch network wide on Friday the 5th at 11:00 PM (this was done).
  • Generally it appears as a 1 - 4 sec hit every 24-72 hours.
As soon as it is known the code release and due date for the fix will be sent out.

NOC Updates:
On the router swaps there are 6 done. LA, Atlanta, DC and NY remain and will be done in the next few weeks, skipping the week of the member meeting.
The handover of the Northern Tier network from Zayo was done on friday March 29. Currently working on deploying in order to start testing in the next week. The AL2S circuit between 710 North Lakeshore and Seattle should be in production by Mid- next week (11th or so).

Restoration and Failover: There is work on:

  • Comparing restoration times of OE-SS and Layer 3
  • Thought about if it would be work revisiting the IGP and looking at tuning it.
  • There needs to be a conversation about how to prefer links given all of the new interconnects that are proposed.
-Is the IGP set up to handle all of these links?
  • There are some ideas around but we are asking people to at least take a look and think about it some.
  • This topic should get taken to the peering group for them to work on. It will be placed on the agenda.
Chris will get some information to the peering and routing WG. The conversations will also be scoped out in order to keep it within reasonable bounds. Chris will share material with Michael, David and Jeff. Once that is done a broader call will be made.

The communities and policy discussion will be moved to the peering WG as well.
