Agenda/Notes:

  • Discuss how to respond to the newly proposed Internet2 membership
    model. Evaluate impact on SEGP community

    • The new membership model there may be a few institutions that are currently connecting via SEGP that could *volunteer* to become Internet2 members.
    • About 10 research intensive 4 year schools may be asked to join as Members eventually (with a few years).
    • costs to SEGP.
    • Randy suggested we circulate something that clarifies the proposed changes to the K20 community.   Maybe a paragraph to the larger advisory commitee wouldn't hurt.
    • Louis suggests sending something to the Membership Committee that we are in favor of no change - congratulate them on not messing with the SEGP special sauce.  If anything changes to Sponsored Participant or SEGP, we ask them to keep the group well informed.
    • ACTION ITEM:  Kim Owen will put together a 1st draft early next week, exec committee will edit and Heather T. will proof read.
    • ACTION ITEM:  James/Louis/Carol will put together a quick paragraph summarizing the changes proposed for the K20 Advisory Committee.
  • Standing K20 executive committee meeting time/frequency?
    • schedule standing meeting last friday of every month -  starting July 31 -  7am PDT
    • ACTION ITEM:  James will propose a set of dates through 2009
  • Discuss possible engagement of Americorps volunteers in local
    schools/libraries as a way to expand the K20 Initiative's outreach
    capacity.
    • There is potential here but it will take considerable time to realize this idea.
    • If states want to pursue this, a good first step would be to engage the local Americorps volunteer organization.
    • Randy suggested putting togther a Muse project where interested people could congregate.
    • It might be worth spending our spare cycles organizing and further developing the materials/presentations/resources that illustrate the possibilities of Internet2 connectivity before engaging various groups to help us deliver the message more broadly.
  • K20 member meeting planning - its that time again!
    • Carol would like to plan a fun sunday night social for the K20 community.
    • ACTION ITEM:  Carol will send message to the K20 list asking folks to try and arrive in San Antonio by 6pm on Sunday.
    • MM planning meet every friday at 7am PDT starting July 10.
  • MegaConference Jr. Sr. Future planning
    • Looking for actual people to put time toward planning the future events.
    • Louis spoke with Jennifer, contributed great ideas.  The K20 community is willing to make this a core program.
    • Randy - Indica Cambell at Kan-Ren is willing to help.  Randy will send contact info to Kim B.
