Nominations Discussion

Dee Childs, Brad Christ, Ted Hanss, Christine Miki, Chris Sedore are stepping down or have terms ending. Brad and Christine can be reappointed. Per the InCommon ByLaws, Steering puts forth 2 nominations for each slot so the Member (Internet2) can make the final determination.

  • Ensure that Steering has a position / posture / understanding from the perspective of those who are underwriting the work and needs fulfillment.

Suggest 3 pairings for the 4 slots.

Brad opened the discussion. It is important that InCommon Steering represents the diversity of the community that it serves. The adoption of significant changes to the federation policy such as fee increases, joining international inter-federation, and required participation in Baseline Expectations rest on Steering representing the rich set of community issues in the policy and operational considerations.

The voting on the slate was passed (pending other discussions which may arise) based on the motions and affirmations of the participants in attendance.  A call for questions resulted in no further discussion so the slate is passed as submitted.

eduroam

Sara Jeanes provided an outline of the eduroam Transition that Internet2 has been working on.

Over the past year, we’ve engaged three state-wide Support Organizations to provide eduroam to K-12: Network Nebraska, Utah Telehealth Network and SunCorridor in AZ. Because of the scaling and growth anticipated in that program as well as the higher-education and research community to make eduroam access ubiquitous, Internet2 built and deployed a cloud infrastructure and transitioned all 1000 subscribers during the month of November. Internet2 has also integrated eduroam’s management portal with the InCommon Federation Manager to align user experience and leverage an existing application that has a proven track record.

Internet2 is working with eduroam Advisory Committee for more guidance and needs assessment. Two working group reports are out for comment: Easing eduroam Onboarding and Guest Access.

Baseline Expectations

Baseline version 2 includes SIRTFI - provides identity endpoint URL and TLS protocol specification.  Adherence, depending upon the category, is between 80-90%.  Some scanned endpoints cannot be scored for but the vast majority have been scored.  There is a docket of organizations with less than 100% compliance and are searching for those who can take on these organizations and attempt to obtain a response.

It is still expected that there will be requests from organizations who will want to be considered “compliant” without the SSL Labs requirements being fully met.  Exceptions are going to be considered for those who can demonstrate sufficient compliance with the spirit of the technical requirement even when the objective technical scoring cannot be met.
