Minutes

Accepted minutes from May 28, 2015

External Identities Working Group - Eric Goodman

Eric Goodman, who led the working group, discussed the final report, which is on the wiki: https://spaces.at.internet2.edu/x/FoVHBQ The WG also developed a table with the status of deliverables (and associated commentary) here: https://spaces.at.internet2.edu/display/EXTID/Status+of+ExtID+Deliverables

Eric suggested next steps might include documenting how the group discussed solving the use cases and the associated trade-offs. This could be done by interviewing relevant individuals, as well as asking for use cases from the community.

(AI) Those on the TAC call voted to accept the report. Steve Carmody will send email to the TAC list asking for confirmation from those not on the call, and also include information about next steps.

(AI) TAC recommended publishing the wherever appropriate (suggestions included the InCommon web, wiki, EDUCAUSE security group). (AI) Dean Woodbeck will consider where to publish the report.

(AI) Steve Carmody will take this report, along with recommended next steps, to Steering.

IdP of Last Resort Working Group - Keith Hazelton

Keith led the TAC through a summary of changes made to the draft final report (see https://spaces.at.internet2.edu/x/QQApBQ), based on the last TAC meeting (he recommends looking at v. 48 on the wiki and comparing with the current version). The report includes the requirements an IdP of Last Resort must meet, as well as recommended criteria (all from the point of view of an R&S service provider).

The report recommends a near-term plan to get an IdPoLR service into production as quickly as possible, as well as beginning work on a longer-term plan to create a level playing field for any potential provider to offer a comparable or better service. The report offers UnitedID as a potential near-term candidate as an IdPoLR and evaluated the service against the requirements (https://spaces.at.internet2.edu/x/bQs7BQ).

Those on the call unanimously accept the working group report and (AI) Steve Carmody will send email to the TAC list seeking confirmation from those not in attendance.

TAC recommends that, based on this report, InCommon Ops proceed to recruit an IdPoLR into the federation, keep TAC informed of progress, and work with the WG if/when necessary in the process.

New Entities Working Group

This discussion and report was deferred to the next meeting.

Operationalizing eduGAIN

This discussion was deferred to the next meeting.

Federation Interoperability Working Group - Nick Roy

Nick discussed the draft charter for the proposed Federation Interoperability Working Group (https://spaces.at.internet2.edu/x/iIhHBQ). He outlined three potential audiences: developers, deployers, and operators. It was suggested to remove the reference to the POP replacement and also to ensure there is linkage with the international community. It was further suggested to ask the AAC to move forward with their proposed Trustmarks Working Group and to incorporate the discussion of a POP replacement with that group.

(AI) Steve Carmody will send email to the TAC list asking for approval of the revised WG charter.

(AI) Steve Carmody will contact Jacob Farmer (char of the AAC) asking the AAC to begin work on the Trustmarks WG, including the POP replacement.

Steering Communication

Ann recommended that the TAC resolutions from today’s meeting (related to the working groups) be communicated to Steering as an FYI. Further, that the IdP of Last Resort recommendation go to Steering for a vote, since it includes the commitment of resources.

Next Meeting - June 25, 2015 - 1 pm ET
