Trust and Identity Program Advisory Group Meeting - September 17, 2018

Attending: Michael Gettes, Chris Phillips, Sean Reynolds, Ted Hanss

With: Kevin Morooney, Ann West, Steve Zoppi

InCommon Fee Discussion

Kevin led a discussion about the proposed InCommon fee increase. He had a discussion with InCommon Steering last week and feedback was favorable, with the conversation focusing on how we should frame the discussion.

The outreach will include these items (among others):

One recommendation is two focus on two things: 1) what have participants received for their current investment? and 2) what will the fee increase provide going forward?

The intention is that InCommon serve as the umbrella for the TIER platform going forward. We have started to talk about this as a platform (as opposed to focusing on specific components). One rationale - the federation doesn’t work unless it has a supporting platform. The platform is how we’re enabling full community participation.

(AI) Kevin will follow-up with Sean, Klara, and Ana about other potential groups to contact.

PAG Membership

The PAG has reduced in size, with attrition due to people moving and retiring. There have been discussions about representation from a regional and some type of research representation. Recruiting new members has not been a high priority, given the urgency of the fee increase discussions. The PAG agreed that it would be best to wait until the fee increase process is finalized before bringing on new members. There is a need to broaden the diversity of membership (small schools, regionals, research), and to broaden the discussions to include things like eduroam and the Certificate Service.
