How Does The Internet (Web Browsing) Actually Work?
When you enter an URL (i.e. https://example.com) in the web browser, the browser checks various sorts of cache - these include Browser Cache, Router Cache, and Operating System Cache, for DNS entries to ferret out the IP address that corresponds to the URL. If no result (the URL IP address) is found in all the cache, a DNS query is sent to the assigned recursive server, which is managed by your internet service provider (ISP). If the recursive server does exactly know what the URL IP address is, it continues the hunt by querying the relevant DNS root server.
At the top of the DNS hierarchy, there consists of DNS root servers, top-level domain name servers (TLD servers), and authoritative DNS servers.
