1. Routing WG integrated into Peering WG
Jeff made an announcement that the routing working group has been integrated into the peering working group.
2. Update from Internet2 on peering
There has been an exchange between TR and CPS routes. Chris has done some analysis on the traffic. The traffic analysis was shared at the Connector/Network Member BoF at Joint Techs and will be sent to the connector list as well as to the NTAC. Chris mentioned that Internet2 has been working on more detailed traffic analysis and will present more of that information on the next Peering/Routing call.
3. AOAC TR-CPS update
At the last AOAC meeting, the AOAC reviewed the CPS/TR financial model as well as the traffic analysis report and endorsed the CPS/TR consolidation. The endorsement was communicated to Doug Van Houweling, the Board and the other council chairs. Internet2 staff are focusing on using the traffic analysis to determine next implementation steps.
4. Shifting Microsoft commercial peering from the R&E network to CPS
Internet2 has had peering with Microsoft for 11-12 years and has had direct peering with them since 2003. Internet2 wants pull them out of the routing table and move them to CPS. Chris is able to use flow data to determine which connectors are making heavy use of the peering with Microsoft, he has checked and those connectors are all using CPS so there won't be much impact.
5. BGP community tags for I2 International peers
This is yet to be a formal request but Chris has had conversations with international peers regarding v6 route leakage from international networks. It is especially problematic for those that mix R&E and commercial routes. In those conversations, there was a request for a determination of the region where the routes are originating. Chris suggested asking the international peers what they expect to do with the data. Jeff wanted to understand the underlying reasons for the request. Chris will get clarification on the use case for the data and will send a note to the working group.
