Enterprise Architecture, not having a universally accepted "Body of Knowledge" or discipline held by practitioners or researchers, has an ambiguous value proposition with no commonly accepted framework of benefits that establish the contribution of EA to a typical Higher Ed institution's mission. Higher Ed organizations that practice EA can and should assess both effectiveness and efficiency of their EA programs. Measuring effectiveness through periodic assessment of EA maturity based on characteristics of increasingly higher levels of capability in relevant areas will help Enterprise Architects demonstrate the relevance of EA to their institutions' mission.
