The August 7th AWS NET+ Tech Share covered a wide range of topics from AWS Landing Zone Accelerator, recent news about AWS Code Commit, upcoming GenAI workshops, and account transfers to FourPoint. Let’s dive right in…

FYI, if you missed any community events around AWS, Bob and I are blogging the highlights. Here are a few recent posts.

Upcoming Events:

  • AWS Private Marketplace Workshops. The NET+ AWS quarterly calls in August and September will be dedicated to AWS Marketplace. NET+ AWS subscribers will be invited to attend a two-part series designed to leave you with your own custom marketplace. (Invitations and registration to come.)
    • Wednesday, August 21, 11am PDT / 2pm EDT - NET+ AWS Strat Call. In this session, you will gain an understanding of the options available and get a checklist of information needed to build your own AWS Private Marketplace.
    • Wednesday, September 18, 11am PDT / 2pm EDT - NET+ AWS Tech Jam. In this 2 hour session, the AWS Marketplace team will help build out of your Private Marketplace, even if you choose not to release it right away.

Highlights:

  • AWS Landing Zone Accelerator (LZA) Community of Practice: Meets first Tuesday of each month. The group is currently planning to crowdsource feature requests to send to AWS and AWS is planning to give an overview of LZA’s roadmap (NDA required) in October. More details can be found in this blog.
  • AWS CodeCommit and Other Services: On the call, AWS provided tips on migrating AWS CodeCommit to another Git provider. Services like AWS CodeCommit, Amazon S3 Select, and AWS Cloud9 are still supported, though no new features are planned. AWS noted it could be a year before any services are fully discontinued.
  • Upcoming Workshops: Given the group’s spoken interest in the call, an Amazon GenAI workshop is planned for late September or early October, likely two half-day sessions spaced a week apart.
  • University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison): UW-Madison will be doing more AWS Security training for various teams. Upcoming ones include training on AWS Security Hub and Amazon GuardDuty. If you are interested in doing the same, speak to your dedicated AWS Solutions Architect to set one up.
  • Transfer to Four Points: There were many questions about the process of transferring, both technical and legal, on the call. Four Points created a comprehensive document on onboarding. For more information on transfers, we highly recommend contacting Four Points directly at I2_AWS_FPT@4points.com.

That’s it for this AWS Tech Share update. Stay tuned for upcoming news and events, and feel free to reach out to tmanik@internet2.edu with feedback or topic suggestions!
