Introducing the COmanage Newsletter

Welcome to the inaugural edition of the COmanage Newsletter. The COmanage Project learned lots of things during 2020/21. One of the bigger things is just how difficult it is to communicate all that has been going on with the project, particularly when we’re not meeting regularly in person. We aim to remedy that gap with this brief monthly newsletter where we share a few highlights. We look forward to hearing what you think!

Want to hear how your colleagues in the community are solving problems similar to yours? Each month you can bring your topics for discussion to the call. No need to register or spin up a presentation (but feel free if it suits you!), just show up!

November's Topic Aperitif: Login/SSH Access

To help get the conversations started, the COmanage team will begin each call with a focused topic. During the recent COmanage Registry training event, a number of people asked about using COmanage Registry to manage login/SSH access to computing resources like Linux clusters, so for November's "topic aperitif" we offer a recap of that discussion. We will follow this 15 min chat with topics you choose. Bring your questions, comments, and suggestions for office hours with the COmanage Project team.

The Registry 4.0.0 Release

Have you heard? The October 2021 COmanage Registry release was a big one! Here we outline a few of the highlights:

  • Asynchronous Provisioning - Now you can provision data about your populations to your other systems with queueing! There is also an asynchronous retry if things don’t go through the first time.
  • Groups Goodness - Last year we added nested groups to support more sophisticated group management. In this latest version, we take it one step further by adding boolean logic to group nesting. Oh, and groups never looked better with a new and more intuitive interface.
  • Facilitating Identity Assurance - Identity assurance is becoming increasingly important in trusted interactions between organizations. Two new Registry features facilitate your enforcement of assurance policies during enrollment flows: MFA Enrollment Management and Identity Document Collection.
  • Improved Matching - Registry already supported integration with tools like COmanage Match. v4.0.0 enhances and improves these configurations and API connections.
  • New Plugins - Who doesn’t love a Registry Plugin? These helpful items extend Registry functionality and enable connections to your external systems. v4.4.0 includes:
    • NEW Plugins!
      • Privacy IDEA Authenticator
      • API Provisioner
      • JIRA Provisioner
      • LDAP Provisioner voPersonToken
    • Enhanced Plugins
      • API Source Poll Mode (Apache Kafka)
      • File Source CSV v2
      • Password Authenticator Self Service Reset

So many new things! And yet, the improvements listed are just a fraction of them. We encourage you to check out the Registry 4.0.0 Release Announcement for all the details. Or, stop by this month's office hours to ask your questions!

Goodbye for now...

That’s it for this month’s newsletter; keep an eye out for our next one scheduled for late November. We hope to see you at our Open Office Hours next week!

About The COmanage Project

COmanage is an Open Source Project that is focused on streamlining digital lifecycle management for your populations. It consists of two tools: Registry and Match.

COmanage Registry is an identity registry with flexible enrollment and lifecycle management capabilities that helps you meet your identity management objectives using standardized tools and approaches. It can be used as a central person registry, a guest management system, or a collaboration hub for scholarly collaborations.

COmanage Match performs identity de-duplication in order to help minimize the creation of duplicate accounts for the same individual. It provides a heuristic-based system for matching identity records across multiple authoritative systems of record. Match can be used with Registry or as a standalone product complementary to your other tools.
