Standard NET+ Service Lifecycle:

  • Provisional – is a cloud offering identified for potential inclusion in the NET+ portfolio that is made available to Internet2 member institutions for early adoption and feedback prior to the completion of a formal service evaluation. It helps assess community interest and readiness for full NET+ service status.

  • Service Evaluation – a structured, community-led process in which Internet2 member institutions collaboratively assess a cloud service’s suitability for the higher education community. This evaluation occurs before a service becomes part of the NET+ portfolio and includes reviews of security, accessibility, pricing, business terms, and functional requirements.

  • General Availability – marks the point at which a cloud service has successfully completed the NET+ Service Evaluation and is broadly available to Internet2 member institutions through the NET+ program. At this stage, the service includes a finalized NET+ agreement, published documentation, and ongoing engagement with the higher education community.

  • Sunset - the phase in which a NET+ service is formally retired from the portfolio, typically due to limited community interest, changes in provider direction, or other strategic factors. The NET+ team works with stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition for participating institutions.
