FEATURED NEWS ITEM

We are excited to share with you a few mentoring and career development opportunities.

  • SCinet Supercomputing Conference - The SCinet team (which plans and delivers the SC Conference’s high-capacity network) is looking for a Web/Database Developer volunteer for the SC19 Conference in Denver, Colorado this year. It's a great professional development opportunity. The selected candidate will be primarily responsible for maintaining and enhancing the various applications that SCinet uses to plan, implement, and maintain the network. These include the intranet and CRS, wiki, helpdesk software, DCIM, and any other internal or customer facing tools.  Previous development experience in an object-oriented language, ideally Python, is necessary for this position. Realistically, this person would be spending pretty much all his/her time working on Intranet-Next, which is a Python/Django app. Expected time commitment would be about 1.5-2 hrs/week on average, but could fluctuate based on what's going on at the time in our development cycle. The SCinet team is looking to fill this position as soon as possible. Anyone interested in learning more about the opportunity can contact Greg Veldman at <gv@purdue.edu>. More info on SCinet can be found here:https://sc19.supercomputing.org/scinet/.

  • Women in IT Networking at SC (WINS) program - This opportunity provides an immersive "hands-on" mentorship for early- to mid-career women in the IT field who are selected to participate in the ground-up construction of SCinet, one the fastest and most advanced computer networks in the world that is built annually for the Supercomputing Conference (SC). The application deadline is April 1, 2019 at 11:59pm AoE. If you have questions, please contact Marla Meehl, marla@ucar.edu, or ESnet Science Engagement engage@es.net.

  • Women in High Performance Computing (WHPC) Mentoring Programme - This is a new programme. This opportunity offers a year-round mentoring programme, providing a framework for women around the world to provide and receive a mentorship in the HPC space. The WHPC mentoring programme will be open 3 times a year and will last for 4 months. During the prescribed mentoring programme, both mentors and mentees will receive training on how to make the most of mentoring, as well as the opportunity to participate in webinars on key skills. Mentoring will be provided in both one-to-one and in groups, typically consisting of 3 people from different organizations and career-levels. Each formal mentor-mentee engagement session lasts for 4 months. We accept mentor/mentee applications year long and we will pool you into the next cohort. Sign up to be a mentor/mentee here (https://womeninhpc.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=007abbb94048819c6eb6815c9&id=f1d557f318&e=b3bdfca1fd).
