DISCUSSION

Working Group Chair Position

Steve Olshansky is moving to a new position as Trust & Identity Program Lead with ISOC.
He is willing to continue serving as chair of this group, but would be happy if someone else would like to step up to assume the leadership.
Email SteveO if you are interested in serving as the working group chair.

Data Protection FAQ

SteveO started developing data protection FAQs on this wiki page:https://spaces.at.internet2.edu/display/K12FedIAMTF/Data+Protection+FAQs

Those on the call stated that this is a very helpful start.

All are invited to edit/add to this FAQ wiki page.

Denise Shorey is working on a blog post based on five of the FAQs.  The blog post will most likely be on the CoSN website in January.

Mark mentioned that in North Carolina, there is work to start on-boarding districts to an Identity Management system. At planning sessions, questions have been asked about data security and privacy.  One resource is this RFP for North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) - "Identity and Access Management Managed Service for the North Carolina Education Cloud" (In particular under Section VII - Terms and Conditions and Supplemental Terms and Conditions, p. 72, Items 24, 26 referencing Confidentiality of State Data and FERPA)

InCommon/Quilt Pilotshttps://spaces.at.internet2.edu/display/InCQuiltFed/Home

All of the eight pilots are making progress.

Update from Nebraska Pilot (Mike and Scott)https://spaces.at.internet2.edu/display/InCQuiltFed/Nebraska+Educational+Service+Units+Coordinating+Council+%28ESUCC%29

The Nebraska pilot is making good progress. One of the pilot's major activities is to provide education to key stakeholders about IdM and federation and InCommon. This morning, Mike and Scott spoke to the statewide Technology Commission for Education and presented info about the pilot's work. Interest and awareness are building.  In last month there have continued to be meetings of a working group (comprised of educational service unit staff and people from universities and community colleges) to work on K12 federation design issues.  Work has started with Gluu around building the IdP system at the Educational Service Unit.

Update from MCNC Pilot (Mark)https://spaces.at.internet2.edu/display/InCQuiltFed/MCNC

The MCNC pilot invokes a K12 district that has an early college / high school program at Davidson County Community College. The Community College has recently joined inCommon.  The K12 district has been a sponsored partner in InCommon for 5 years. Getting close to having students start to be able to use their K12 credential to access the community college resources. The hope is to share this as a case study.  There are many such joint programs between high schools and colleges in North Carolina.
