# of ATTENDEES:

MAIN ISSUES DISCUSSED

- Purpose of web services and benefits of web services.  Very helpful in providing a standard, simple interface for developers to gain access to data without having to learn LDAP, JDBC and other protocols.  Developers prefer a RESTful interface using JSON.
- Does a message bus fit into web services?  What kinds of messages, thick (data-rich) or thin?
- How do you represent the data?  New debate about the semantics each time?  A standard for commonly-vended information?

ACTIVITIES GOING FORWARD / NEXT STEPS

- Continued work toward standardizing web service calls and, potentially, message formats (e.g., JSON, XML, SOAP).
- Work together to summarize the current landscape, review existing products, identify gaps.  (Where does this get done?)
