Title: "Internet2 and 21st Century Applications: Voices from SEGP States"
Date:  Jan. 21, 2009 - 12-1:30PST / 1-2:30pm MST / 2-3:30pm CST / 3-4:30 EST

Event Purpose:  Colorado will become a SEGP in July 2009 and is interested in learning more about Internet2 and what is happening in other SEGP states.   Ideally, participants would highlight an application or applications from their SEGP, and talk about the value the K20 community for their states.   The event will be part of the Colorado Association of Leaders in Educational Technology (CALET) pre-conference.  They are anticipating 75 K-12 education technology leaders in Colorado public schools will attend.  For many of the participants--they have had little or no exposure to Internet2, quality interactive video conferencing and how this can impact schools and kids.  This event precedes the 9th Annual CASE Winter Leadership Conference Jan. 22-23, 2009 also at the Denver Tech Center.

Our Session Description:  Colorado plans to join the Internet2 community as the 38th SEGP state in July 2009!  In this Interactive Video Conference session you'll have a chance to engage with members of the Internet2 K20 Initiative and learn what access to the Internet2 advanced telecommunications network (and a 60,000 institutional strong network of .edu practictioners) means for CO K-12 teachers and students alike.

Dan Gross

Grossd@gtc.edu

Dan is currently the Director of the Southeastern Wisconsin Instructional Network Group (SWING). In addition to working with K-12 and higher education partners, Dan also heads up the WIRED Partners initiative to get Wisconsin's Resources in Educational Partners: Wisconsin's museums, zoos, libraries, aquaria and other 'content providers,' to use today's communications technology as an effective educational outreach tool. In 2004, Dan joined the Internet2 K20 Advisory Committee and later became a Chair of Wisconsin's K20 Working Group through WiscNet.

Dan's background is in both elementary and adult education, and has been practicing various forms of distance learning for many years. Bio -
Gerri Maglia has been an educator for 20 years and has had a hand in some form of Educational Technology for 17 years.  For the past 11 years, the primary focus of her work revolves around the use of interactive two-way synchronous video conferencing technology to support teaching and learning at the K - 12 level. Gerri is employed (since August 2008) with the Texas Education Telecommunications Network (TETN) and the previous 10 years with Education Service Center Region XI in Fort Worth, Texas. Gerri believes that even more critical than obtaining the technology, is to create and use plans and systems that ensure utilization of that technology to fill a need.  To support program registration and to assist with marketing, Gerri builds web applications/databases such as the Connect2Texas program, a collaborative of 15 museums and outreach organizations in the state of Texas whose primary mission is to deliver student and staff educational programs to the K - 12 community.   She is now building a similar resource for TETN.  Gerri hopes to bring a new level of resources, including Internet 2 resources, to Texas students that include asynchronous discussions and digital video streaming content.
