The capability maps used in the ITANA Reference Architecture for Teaching and Learning are composed of three sections:

Processes

Processes can be laid out along a horizontal "life cycle" axis. In the case of a Learner this might include:

  1. Planning. Degree planning, course selection, building a timetable.
  2. Execution. Attending lectures. Completing assignments.
  3. Review. Checking grades. And possibly another cycle of planning.

In the case of an instructor:

  1. Planning. lecture preparation. Writing tests/exams. Assembling learning objects.
  2. Execution. Lecturing. Running exams, tests. Grading.

Scenarios illustrate a process.

Capabilities (domain specific)

These are the capabilities that support a process. For example, a student who is planning may need:

  1. A degree audit capability
  2. A course catalogue
  3. A course schedule

Data-information

The information required to support a capability. For example, degree rules need to be stored somewhere for Degree Audit
