T&I and Ops Updates

  • A new version of the Federation Manager is planned to be released next week with preparations for integrating it into Internet2's IAM infrastructure.
  • Nic participated in a call of the OIDC Browser Interactions working group. Notes are available in his electronic mail of 1/14/2021.
    • This work is important, as it affects many SSO implementations, particularly those supporting multilateral federation. To date, only eCommerce use cases have been considered, so they need to hear enterprise and academic federation use cases.
    • Heather (who is currently working with Google on this issue) suggested a TAC Slack channel for discussion that can be fed to the working group.
      • Albert has created a inc-webid-discussion Slack channel. Contact him if you would like to be added.

Administrivia

  • It was agreed that work group liaisons should send updates on their work groups' progress prior to the TAC mail list prior meetings. If there's nothing new, just send an update saying that.
  • Heather suggested that we produce an annual report during the first 4-6 weeks of each year to cover accomplishments of the past year, as well as the work plan for the coming year. The Vice Chair would be responsible for "holding the pen" to draft the report.
    • Keith suggested a webinar in the February/March time frame to discuss the report and get input from the community.

2021 Work Plan

  • A draft InCommon TAC 2021 Work Plan Items is available.
    • ACTION: Everyone please add your thoughts to the draft.
  • The theme for 2021 is "Making Federation Easier." We can use that to prioritize potential work items.
    • Of course, "easier" is not an absolute. In particular, we often have to work harder in the short term to make things easier for the long term.
  • Discussions of specific work items
    • Heather asked how the proposed Subject Identifier work relates to current REFEDS work on a new version of R&S.
      • From InCommon's point of view, the Subject Identifier is about whether and how the new subject identifiers would be adopted within InCommon. It would be very nice if R&S encouraged use of them.
      • From REFEDS point of view, it would be nice to know that federations like InCommon are adopting the new subject identifiers.
      • Adoption of the new identifiers (and deprecation of the old identifiers) will take a long time. The next version of R&S will likely need to accommodate to that.
    • Discussion of issues related to adoption of the new subject identifiers
    • Status of 2020's Consultation on IdP as a Service Working Group Report
      • It's out for its community consultation. Longer than usual time to respond was provided, given the holidays.
