Updates from group members

Ingham - UNC has set a date for shibbolizing production version of ezproxy - July 15th.  This was not without a few wrinkles.  At that point, anticipates being more involved in the testing phase.

Kennedy - still working to get a test instance of ezproxy shibbolized with shib 2.0.

Fred Zhang - MSU - has a shibbolized ezproxy, mostly motivated to do so to have single sign on w/in the campus, wondering from others' experiences, what is the main advantage of adding shibboleth to the scenario:

  - [a leap of faith] the hope for some of the personalization features

  - seems to be the way authn is supposed to be moving

  - the possibility for getting away from IP management

  - less proxied sessions leads to better performance

Foster Zhang - at SLA conference in DC.  Spent a lot of time at the exhibits, talking with vendors, attempting to get to the right people.  Generated some more contacts.  Also, set up integration with Wilson

Inviting vendor participation in upcoming calls

Foster had previously identified some reps that would be good candidates to invite to our call.

He noted that when dealing with vendors it is difficult to describe what our group is, because we don't have a well defined role.  In the UK, there is an organization that sits between the content providers and libraries, and acts as a go between.  Should that be our role, or should we be information sharers.  It would be easier to get on the radar of publishers if we could make them believe that if they talked to us, that we will be able to spread the word.

Ingham - we are trying to set precedents.  Vendors who are involved early in the process have more of a say in what those precedents are and in shaping what de facto standards might become.  Might be incentive for participation and helping us.

Decided that when inviting participants to our calls, it will be helpful to have some draft of what we would like this standard or recommendation to look like.  [AI] Lavigne and Foster Zhang agreed to start drafting this.

[AI] Kennedy agreed to invite some vendor participants to either the July 24th or July 31st phone call.

Ingham - hope that we can learn from their participation particularly what our blind spots are, what are we missing that they have already come across, especially in the work they have done with UK federations

NISO SSO update

Chandler - Some things tying up this group getting some momentum.  Looking for a chair of the group.
