*Interest in Federating SharePoint*

Call participants outlined how they are interested in using a federated SharePoint.

CIC (Committee for Institutional Cooperation) has a number of working groups interested in using a federated SharePoint to collaborate across the 12 CIC member-institutions.

Johns Hopkins - Currently, Johns Hopkins uses SharePoint internally, on a federated basis, but wants to ready when there is a demand to federate the application with other universities. JHU has one large enterprise version of SharePoint, along with some smaller installations in individuals departments

Michigan State - Michigan State is a member of the CIC and is Interested in that application. The university also has a large project underway to re-configure some of the business systems and processes on campus. SharePoint will be a part of that, but the MSU is looking for a good way to integrate SharePoint with the existing ID infrastructure, and Shibboleth would work well in that capacity.

University of Washington - UW has rolled out a SharePoint service for the campus on a cost-recovery basis (although they are still working to determine the cost). There has been a lot of interest on campus. There are a number of departmental implementations of SharePoint that will be encouraged to merge into the enterprise version. Current and planned uses include MySite, streaming media workflow, reporting services related to a data warehouse, and a number of other developments. In terms of federation, the UW has had some inquiries, particularly related to research collaboration.

The UW has a cost recovery model, but has not determined a price. A unit could purchase a site collector (with 100 gig) and do what they wish. There will be no charge for MySites, which include a 100 meg quota.

*Attributes*

The working group discussed the attributes that an IdP would need to pass to SharePoint. There was also some discussion about how attribute passing would relate to SharePoint profiles (i.e. would the attributes override a profile?). In general, those on the call would not want to allow any customization, using whatever the user institution sends. Some of the attributes discussed, in no particular order, were EPPN, TargetedID, email, group memberships, phone number and display name.

*Next Call*

Mike Grady will likely not make the next call and is looking for a volunteer to serve as the moderator. He is also looking for agenda items. Please contact him with either of these.

The next call is scheduled for June 30, at 2 p.m. EDT.
