InCommon Steering Committee Meeting - January 4, 2021

Outgoing chair Ted Hanss introduced the new Steering members: Jeremy Livingston, Chris Misra, and Kristi Holmes, and also welcomed Keith Wessel in an advisory capacity as the new chair of the InCommon TAC.
Elections
Elections for 2021 InCommon Steering officers took place:
- Chair - It was moved, seconded, and unanimously approved (Brad Christ abstaining) to elect Brad Christ as 2021 chair
- Vice-Chair - It was moved, seconded, and unanimously approved (Marc Wallman abstaining) to elect Marc Wallman as 2021 vice-chair
- Secretary - It was moved, seconded, and unanimously approved (Laura Paglione abstaining) to elect Laura Paglione as secretary
2021 InCommon Steering Topics and Organization
Kevin organized the various thoughts and brainstorming ideas that have been developed so far:
Document organization:
- Committee operations, mechanics
- Program and project monitoring
- Potential new activities for exploration or learning
- Marketing, communication, recruitment
- Environmental monitoring
Committee operations, mechanics
- Need a new Steering liaison to CTAB
- How Steering should be represented on the PAG
- Would Steering want to be represented on the Internet2 cross divisional PAG meeting
Program and project monitoring
- InCommon Assurance Program closeout
- Baseline Expectations (v2)
- Identity Provider as Service report and action plan development
- Catalyst Program lift
- eduroam Support Organization rollout
- eduroam Advisory Committee best practices development, rollout
Marketing and Communications
- Message positioning relating to how “competitors” position their IAM and federation solutions
- Messaging to drive federation and eduroam adoption beyond its current levels, beyond organic growth/attrition
- Outreach to executive stakeholders other than CIOs (CFOs, HR, Registrar, VP/Chancellors of research, etc.) - also need to reinvigorate our outreach to CIOs
- Support for research metrics

- Leveraging NIH support activities for NSF projects, directions
- Vendor/commercial Service Provider onboarding, education
- Federation 2.0
- Relationship development/management plan with cybersecurity communities
- SeamlessAccess support and community engagement

- eSignature capabilities and InCommon’s potential role in it
Brad invited Steering members to comment on the document
After discussion, Steering asked Kevin to set up a two-hour meeting prior to the regular February meeting, to finalize the 2021 planning document.
CTAB Liaision
Jeremy Livingston and Dave Robinson both expressed an interest in learning more about the CTAB liaison position.
