Baseline Expectations v2

The Community Trust and Assurance Board (CTAB) has completing the community consultation process for the proposed implementation of additional Baseline Expectations for Trust in Federation (also known as BE2).

 The three expectations that are part of BE2 are:

  • Every InCommon-registered entity (identity provider and service provider) must secure its connection endpoints with current and trustworthy transport layer encryption;
  • All registered entities must comply with the requirements of the REFEDS Security Incident Response Trust Framework for Federated Identity (SIRtFI)
  • All registered identity providers (IdP) must supply a valid errorURL in its metadata to facilitate federated error handling.

Brad Christ moved, Pankaj Shah seconded a resolution to accept the CTAB recommendation to  implement this next round of Baseline Expectations (BE2). The motion passed unanimously.

Nominations

The InCommon Steering Executive Committee presented a recommended slate of candidates to fill the four open seats for InCommon Steering as of January 1, 2021. The recommendation includes bringing the total number of Steering members to the allowed maximum of 13.

It was moved by Sean Reynolds and seconded by Christine Miki to send the slate of candidates to the InCommon LLC member, Internet2, from which to fill the four seats that will be vacant as of January 1, 2021. The motion passed unanimously (with Laura Paglione abstaining).

New Steering members will be invited to the December meeting, and outgoing members will be invited to the January 2021 meeting.

Officers to serve the 2021 calendar year will be selected during the January 2021 InCommon Steering Committee meeting.

2021 Steering Planning

A planning document created at TechEx in December 2019 outlined priorities for the 2020 year and was very valuable for facilitating agenda topics and priorities. Steering members agreed to a similar process, to be accomplished in two two-hour time blocks, ideally scheduled on the same day. Dean Woodbeck will contact Steering members with calendar options.

The December 2020 Steering agenda will include time to discuss possible topics for 2021.

Next Meeting - December 7, 2020 - 4 pm ET / 3 pm CT / 2 pm MT / 1 pm PT
