Discussion

TomB welcomed the group. This is second of three "check-in" calls that the Advance CAMP Program Committee has scheduled with the Action Item Leads, as stated in the Follow-Up Plan:https://spaces.at.internet2.edu/display/ACAMPActionItems/Advance+CAMP+2010+Action+Item+Follow-Up+Plan

Purpose of today's call: to find out which ACAMP action items are moving forward/ are viable. The plan is to communicate back to the ACAMP attendees and possibly to other audiences.

For each action item, the Lead should try to report on :
A. Report on work so far, including successes and roadblocks
B. Assistance/resources needed, if any
C. Deliverable(s)/goals for final ACAMP Action Item call in Mid-November
D. Plan for ongoing progress beyond mid-November 2010 and "home" for that progress, if applicable

Reports from the Leads

Action Item: Determine next steps for promotion of open source IdM Products (Benn)

https://spaces.at.internet2.edu/display/ACAMPActionItems/ACAMP2010-PromotingOpenSourceProducts

Jens reported since Benn was not able to make the call.

  • A group has met and has been laying the framework for a plan for how to move forward. Jens has engaged some UBC folks.
  • There is still a need to find the people to do the detailed portions of the plans. Volunteers for this action item group are very welcome
  • A Kuali Rice representative is needed. EricW is trying to identify one.
  • Goal for mid Nov 2010 is to have the plan for the framework well fleshed out.
  • Jens will talk about the effort at FMM in the session called "Bleeding Edge of Identity Management"http://events.internet2.edu/2010/fall-mm/agenda.cfm?go=session&id=10001387&event=1159
  • Possibilities for a potential formal "home" for this effort after mid-November: Needs a distinct home w Jasig (Jasig Community of Practice?), Internet2 or EDUCAUSE. The group wants the community to decide where they think the home should be.

Q: Eric: Has this action item group gone thru the process of analyzing what is out there currently and determining where it constitutes IdM?

A: Jens: We've been focusing on the framework and components.
Have not done detailed analysis yet.

Action Item: Identify & Promulgate Tools for Risk Assessment and Entropy Calculation (Mark)

Mark reported:

  • This action items is under the umbrella of the EDUCAUSE IAM Working Group Toolkit & Effective Practices Subgroup, of which Mark is chair.
  • The subgroup has met once and will meet a second time on Monday, Oct. 4.
  • They are going to develop a categorization of things to identify and work toward
  • The EDUCAUSE IAM Subgroup will keep the action item "risk assessment and entropy calculation" on their radar, but this is not in fact a primary effort or goal of the subgroup.
  • Should the "risk assessment and entropy calculation" issue be made a subset of InCommon Silver?
  • Should the InCommon Silver project produce links to suggest to Mark's EDUCAUSE IAM Subgroup regarding Risk Assessment and Entropy?

ReneeS suggested it would be useful to take the existing entropy tool in the spreadsheet and make it more user friendly. Can someone find a grad student to do that?

TomB: yes, let's start by telling people about it. Maybe Mark's EDUCAUSE IAM subgroup will draw additional people to know about this tool.

TomB: Is the EDUCAUSE IdM enough structure for these AIs? Or does this ACAMP add something? Does the ACAMP framework move things along?

Mark: Yes, the ACAMP framework helps.

Action Item: Revise the InCommon Silver IAP (ReneeS)

https://spaces.at.internet2.edu/display/ACAMPActionItems/ACAMP2010+-ReviseInCommonSilverIAP

ReneeS reported:

  • ReneeS and TomB, have completed a review of requirements as part of the CIC Silver Project. They will meet again on October 4 to begin developing a plan for this project as well as a kickoff for a new Silver Project with SURA and MAX.
  • A meeting is planned for the week of Oct 4 to develop a plan to bring input to InCommon TAC on changes of language or more.
  • The CIC Group is also reviewing InCommon Silver.
  • There is sometimes overlap in the various groups at work on Silver, though the involvement is great. Just need to be sure there is communication
  • Possible resource needed: Someone to record decisions and be sure groups are aligned. One or two more people are needed to help sort through the intent and help with the writing. Possibly this additional help will emerge in the InCommon TAC context.

Note: InCommon Silver issues will be discussion at FMM at a session titled "InCommon Silver - Three Perspectives"http://events.internet2.edu/2010/fall-mm/agenda.cfm?go=session&id=10001360&event=1159
